NVIDIA are tipped to be readying an updated version of their GF104 Fermi GPU, on the heels of price cuts to the GeForce GTX 470 range. The new GF104 will apparently have eight Streaming Multiprocessors (SM), according to Fudzilla, thus increasing the overall number of stream processors in the chip to 384 (an increase of 48).
Meanwhile it will also increase SFUs to 32, while texture units are expected to rise from 56 to 64. Interestingly, the current GF104 has seven SMs, and there’s speculation that the new chip could in fact be exactly the same component only with a further SM unlocked now that NVIDIA need the extra boost of power.
