Motorola Triumph?s Camera Issues Are Way Worse Than A Little Screen Flickering

The Motorola Triumph is off to a rough start. A flickering screen issue, while annoying, isn?t all that bad when compared with what new Triumph owners are complaining about now: Apparently the handset's 5-megapixel autofocus camera forgot how to autofocus.

SpaceX To Launch ISS-Bound Supply Ship In November

With the demise of the space shuttle program fresh in my mind, I?m forced to find my space-related solace wherever I can. Luckily, with companies like SpaceX still devoted to removing the obstacles to commercial space flight, I can?t be too bummed -- and as Reuters has reported, SpaceX is preparing their next step. After their literal show of force a few months back, SpaceX is aim their sights just a little higher.

Google launches Hotel Finder, finds a way to recycle Google Maps reviews

By now, it should be no secret that Google wants to get up in your online trip-planning business (if it wasn't somehow there already). First, there was the announcement that El Goog would buy ITA, the company serving up pretty much all of your online ticketing options -- a deal that still hasn't closed. Then came flight schedule searches and now, the outfit's rounding it all out by throwing hotels into the mix. The company just launched Hotel Finder, a service that lets you -- wait for it -- find a place to lay your weary head in these great fifty states. At first glance, it's little more than a specific use case for Google Maps -- just type in a city or US zip code to get a map with the usual spreads of pinpoints. Though Google won't be the middleman booking your hotel reservation, you can use the tool to fine-tune your search, drawing circles on the map to scour multiple neighborhoods. As you'd expect, you can also whittle the search by price and rating, and read reviews that people originally posted on Google Maps. One thing we're liking about the UI is that you don't have to open a new tab to read the full spill on a hotel -- you can just click the listing to see it expand right there, alongside pretty photo collages. Hit the source link to poke around, though if its bare-bones simplicity turns you off, don't say Google didn't warn you -- the tool is so new that Google isn't calling it a "beta" so much as an...experiment.

Apple selling more tablets every 2 weeks as Motorola will all year

Motorola announced yesterday that it expects to sell anywhere from 1.3 to 1.5 million Xoom Android tablets for the year. By comparison, Apple figures disclosed during the third quarter financial call show that the company sells that at least that many iPad 2s every two weeks.

The Xoom was widely expected by Motorola to be an "iPad-killer," and the company was the first to market with an Android tablet. Unfortunately, being first meant that there were very few apps available for the device, that the Xoom didn't ship with support for 4G LTE, and that it isn't running the Android 3.x "Honeycomb" operating system found on competing Android tablets.

Not only is Motorola selling fewer Xooms than expected, but the devices are being sold at a discount to clear out inventories in anticipation of new Motorola tablets rolling out later this year. The company is placing its future hopes on tablets and smartphones that will operate on Verizon's fast 4G LTE network.

In the meantime, Apple is steamrolling over the company that used to be the undisputed leader in mobile technology, and doing it without the one feature that Motorola touted in its 2011 Super Bowl ad -- Adobe Flash.

2011 Silverstone World Superbike Saturday Round Up: Wasn't This Supposed To Be A Bad Track For Ducati?

Things haven't quite turned out as expected at Silverstone. Going into the weekend, everyone - fans, pundits and the Ducati teams themselves - were downplaying the chances of the Ducatis at Silverstone, with its fast layout and high-speed straights, and estimating how many points that championship leader might be forced to concede to the faster four cylinder bikes of Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri. But if anything, it has turned out to be the opposite, with Ducatis at or near the top in both the World Superbike and the Superstock 1000 classes. Indeed, so strong have the Ducatis been in Superstock that they sit in the front three places of the grid for tomorrow's race, Danilo Petrucci taking pole ahead of Davide Giugliano and Niccolo Canepa.

Pole was not on the cards in the World Superbike class for a Ducati rider - that honor falls to an outstanding John Hopkins, entered as a wildcard on board a Samsung Crescent Suzuki GSX-R 1000 - but with Checa on the end of the front row and Effenbert's Sylvain Guintoli at the head of the second row, they are well-placed to be competitive at Silverstone. Checa's race pace is punishing, especially when the track is a little cooler as it is expected to be on Sunday.

AT&T announces throttling plans, gently reminds us why the T-Mobile acquisition is so great

AT&T today officially confirmed what so many had expected for some time now: the carrier will be throttling select users' unlimited data plans. The move, which takes effect on October 1st, is a response to a "serious wireless spectrum crunch," according to a message issued today. The changes will not affect most customers, according to the company, primarily targeting those who fall within the top five percent of heavy users in a given billing cycle. Once the new period begins, speeds will be restored. Even with this new plan in place, however, the company says that the spectrum problems still won't be resolved -- it does have a simple solution, however, explaining that "nothing short of completing the T-Mobile merger will provide additional spectrum capacity to address these near term challenges." Full text after the break.

Google's Music Beta gives users two invites, keys to the cloud for their best mates

We probably all know at least one person who is bummed they missed out on the initial round of invites for Music Beta by Google. Well friends, you can be the bearer of good news for those troubled souls (who haven't moved on to other online music pursuits, of course), as we discovered through a fellow music enthusiast. Members of the cloud-based service are now the proud owners of two invites handed down from the Goog, to be passed out only through a thorough application and interview process. Ok, not really... but perhaps you do have the power to make two of your friends, or soon-to-be friends, pretty happy. That is, until they realize how long it will take them to upload that music library they've been curating since 8th grade.

[Thanks, Ralph]

LauncherPro dev's skinnable UberMusic player finally hits the Android Market

We were thoroughly infatuated with LauncherPro developer Federico Carnale's then-unnamed music app the first time we saw it in beta, bringing Metro UI styled playback to our Android lifestyles. Now UberMusic v1.0 is available on the Android Market, flexing its customizable skills for the princely sum of $3.49. Don't think this is just some ripoff however, while one of the skins (that can also be found on the Market) is a Zune lookalike, third parties can make it look however they might like, including the widgets. If you missed our demo the first time around you can check out the video after the break to see why we're so excited, or hit the source link to purchase now. Allergic to spending money on apps? Don't give up all hope, as the creator tweets an ad-supported free version may be on the way as well.

Repsol Press Release: Interview With Marc Marquez At Halfway

The ever-industrious Repsol Media Service issued a press release containing an interesting interview with their Moto2 rider Marc Marquez. In the interview, Marquez talks about his adaptation to the Moto2 category, about the crashes in the early part of the season, and about what it takes to compete in and win a Moto2 race.

Below is the Repsol press release:

"We have shown that we know how to learn from our mistakes"

The Repsol rider reaches the season's halfway point in second position of the overall standings in his first year in Moto2

Despite starting the season with three crashes in the first three races, Marc Márquez was able to learn from the mistakes on his new bike and now is having a spectacular upwards trajectory in the category. The four victories he has gathered —the last three, consecutive— and a second position have placed the rider from Cervera in the second position of the standings, which will allow him to face the second half of the season with optimism.

After the great preseason you had, did you expect the World Championship to start as it did?

3D-printed plane takes to the skies, sounds like a Black & Decker (video)

You know what's pleasing about this plastic drone, aside from the fact it flies? It took just a week to design and build from scratch, thanks to the labor-saving wonders of 3D printing. Each component was formed in ultra-thin layers by a laser beam trained on a bed of raw material -- either plastic, steel or titanium powder depending on the required part. If designers at the University of Southampton wanted to experiment with elliptical wings, they simply printed them out. If they thought a particular brand of WWII nose cone might reduce drag, they pressed Ctrl-P. And if they reckoned they could invent a wingless flying steamroller... Er, too late. Anyway, as the video after the break reveals, there's never been a better time for the work-shy to become aeronautical engineers.

2011 Laguna Seca MotoGP Friday Round Up - A Fast Yamaha, And Two Slow Ducatis

Friday brought typical Monterrey Peninsula weather to Laguna Seca: cool and overcast in the morning, with temperatures rising and the sun out in the afternoon, but surprisingly, the times did not really tumble during the second session of practice. The difference between the fastest time in each of the two sessions was just a quarter of a second, despite a much warmer track.

Jorge Lorenzo was fastest in the afternoon, but more impressive than his best time was the string of fast laps he reeled off: 7 laps in 1'22.2 or better, and a lot better race pace than either Dani Pedrosa or Casey Stoner, despite the two Hondas being just over a tenth off Lorenzo's best lap. Lorenzo was, unsurprisingly, rather happy, though he claimed that there were improvements to be made with the front end, which is a worrying prospect for the competition.
