As in practice, to dictate the pace was always Casey Stoner, impressive speed and direction, but just in the final seconds Sic has removed a pole that seemed in the safe.
SIC THAT CHARACTER!
After two weeks of controversy, criticism, threats that forced him to move around the paddock with two bodyguards dressed as men of the Gresini team, Simoncelli has responded to the huge, extraordinary showing as much as his talent. For more than half of qualifications, Sic seemed in trouble, then, however, has changed over the last two laps and the rhythm was even extraordinary, snatching the pole for Stoner to 16 milliseconds. Then in the next step, Marco was further improved, but a bad embarked prevented him from further lower a fantastic time anyway. Once the park closed, Marco was welcomed by a volley of whistles of the Spanish fans, sporting and received compliments from Jorge Lorenzo. For Simoncelli is the first pole position in MotoGP.
BALANCED TESTING
Stoner separately – and, of course, Simoncelli in the final – qualifying was very balanced, with continuous changes in top management positions. Just in the final, Jorge Lorenzo was able to rip the front row team-mate Ben Spies, finally back at good levels, with a good final round. In terms of absolute time, Lawrence is away, but in practice the morning he was the fastest pace in the race tomorrow, then, could be one of the protagonists. Fifth Andrea Dovizioso, who has just lost the first row in the final, but he seems capable of being able to play the podium. Good sixth place Cal Crutchlow.
RED WITH NEW ENGINE
Unlike the past, Valentino Rossi, who died without consequences in the morning, he made a good step forward in qualifying, improved a lot compared to the liberal. Valentino brought to debut the new engine, the one with the heavier shaft to ensure smoother power delivery. Ducati in the garage has worked hard to make the GP11 more driveable, but there is still much to do.
REACTIONS TO HEAT
These are the first comments of the pilots of the first row.
Simoncelli: “It ‘s the best way to respond to two weeks of controversy! Honestly I did not expect this pole, because Stoner seemed impregnable. I was a bit ‘in trouble, but half turn, then the situation has improved and I made two good rounds: it is a great feeling. ”
Stoner: “I am a bit ‘angry because the soft rubber grip I had enough and, indeed, the situation was a bit’ dangerous. In race trim, though, we’re good and competitive. ”
Lorenzo: “I do not like hearing the fans boo Simoncelli, who before being a pilot is a man now is going strong and I congratulate him. I suffer too much, we are not in place and the Honda are very strong. ”
